A Bozo trading center, the small village of San, has served as a waystation for several centuries. It's mosque, built in the Sudanese style, is quite lovely.

Take the time to visit several of the Bozo and Bobo villages between Ségou and San. There are rules of etiquette, however. Before entering a village, one is to ask for the head man and formally greet him. Do not take photographs without asking permission from your subjects. It has become customary to tip anyone sitting for a picture.
