Lott House Q&A "Brooklyn's Eighteenth-Century Lott House"
1999-2001

How did you know when it was time to pick up your trowel?

Chris Ricciardi: By May 1998 we had enough documentary sources to begin work. We had a plan of attack, had done surface survey, and had recorded the state of things as we found them, taking pictures and noting features. So in went the trowel.

Discussion Question:
How can archaeologists be sure that it's time to start digging?
