This is just a quick note about the comments provided by Reynolds Cushman. Conditions did change at Johnson's Island through the years. We have explored some of these issues in our investigations of the latrines. We have looked at medical treatment over time, food resources, and other materials available. This is being published through the Society for Historical Archaeology, and is "in press". The archaeological evidence is clearly there showing how treatment changed. When the article is printed, I will make an announcement on our web site. Thanks for your interest.
