"Under City Hall Park"
February 25, 2000
Discovery of an intact portion of the eighteenth-century African Burial Ground during construction of an office at 290 Broadway in 1991 led to public protests. The building's plan was modified and 427 burials were excavated; the remains are under study at Howard University. (Spencer P.M. Harrington)
