Anthropologists and forensics experts continue to search for remains of those who died on September 11, 2001, in the debris from Ground Zero.

An Irishman who discovered a dug-out canoe in 1966 has possibly found another one in the banks of the Avoca River. He’s keeping it wet until an expert from the National Museum can come and see it. “If it was the real thing, Jaysus, it would be great,” he said.  

Rising sea levels and erosion threaten the myriad archaeological sites in Newfoundland and Labrador. “We’ve provided a lot of information on aboriginal life in Bonavista Bay leading up to the time of European contact and before contact,” said archaeologist Laurie McLean.  

An Australian team will head to Turkey to map the shipwrecks off the coast of Gallipoli. “Some of the [World War I] shipwrecks have been documented through diving expeditions, but we will be doing the first comprehensive archaeological mapping of the underwater terrain,” said New South Wales archaeologist Tim Smith.
