Aphrodite in New York
November 24, 2003
by Mark Rose
This miniature glass jar is one of a pair from Kalavassos-Ayios Dimitrios tomb 11. It is certainly from Egypt and dates to the late 18th Dynasty, likely during the reign of Amenhotep III or Akhenaten. It was placed in the tomb around 1410-1375 B.C. Made of dark blue, yellow, and white glass, the jar possibly contained perfumed oil, a luxury item.
