I suspect most Nabataeans might have worn sandals, if they wore shoes at all. Does anyone know of early shoes that were not sandals?

The Bedouins who live around Petra today are such adept climbers they can explore the site barefoot or in loafers without stumbling; outsiders like me laced up our sturdiest hiking boots and still feared twisting an ankle.
