Archaeology, History, and Books

The book "Reading the Past, second edition" by Ian Hodder has dedicated chapter 5 to this debate. The first parts are fascinating and his approaches to discussing this topic are interesting. It is well worth the read if one is truly interested.

Since Hodders whole point with this book was to point out the flaws in various archaeological methods of study, his views on this debate are interesting.

In addition to this one, there is another book, "Interpreting Archaeology" by Ian Hodder, Michael Shanks, Alexandra Alexandri, Victor Buchli, John Carman, Jonathan Last and Gavin Lucas that dedicates six chapters to this topic. It is also another good read.
