The Athens Acropolis was closed to angry tourists again yesterday by striking Greek contract workers. “The Acropolis is our only weapon. Closing it has political and financial costs for the government,” explained archaeologist Aspasia Rarri.

A 3,500-year-old cylinder seal was found in the Kelar Mound in northern Iran. A photograph shows the seal and the image it impresses on clay tablets.  

China will open a national protection center for ancient murals in Dunhuang, once a town on the ancient Silk Road. More than 700 caves in Dunhuang are decorated with frescos.
